The Trouble with Televison

  1. Some of Winn's main points are that children would rather watch TV than do family activities. That brings a negative effect on the family because eventually the family would start to grow apart and they would just be doing their own individual things. The parents need to take control with that and make up a system so that doesn't happen.

  2. Winn's best developed point is TV Allows Kids to Grow Up Less Civilized. The reason its the best developed because it obviously is the topic she knows most about because she explains a lot in it. For some, TV is used to keep kids entertained so that the parents arent bothered while they are getting other things done. This can turn into being a bad thing because if the parents keep allowing their children to watch TV and do whatever they want, it could hurt their relationship with their children in the future. Some may turn out to be troublemakers if parents dont take action with TV watching.

  3. A point that Winn makes that appears less developed is when she talks about TV keeping Families from Doing Other Things. Winn makes a statement that TV can affect a childs attitude by what they see. That is not always the case. A family activity could be sitting down together and watching a TV show or a movie. If its something they are doing as a family and can keep the family closer together.

  4. A point that Winn makes that i agree with is when she says it has a negative effect on school achievements. There are many kids out there who would rather watch TV than do their homework. Therefore, they wouldnt get their homework finished so they would get bad grades. There are also kids out there who want the day to go by faster so they can get home and watch their favorite afternoon TV show. They spend most of the day thinking about the TV then they do their school work. I know from experience. Winn says that studies have shown that if kids would not watch TV and do their studies more, they would get better grades and understand what they are doing more.
